[Short Story] Illusion and Lies



It was a chilling and cold morning, sun shines with the snowy rain upon the land. The wind blew slowly in chilling freeze to my bone as I walked in the snowy wasteland. There was nothing there, I didn't even remember why I was even here....

"Don't believe in what is seen, seek what's behind you've seen. Lies surround you."

I could clearly heard the voice that spoke through my head. But I understood nothing, literally nothing at all. I just walked through the wasteland, till a ray of light hit me. All was a blinding light, and I could see nothing.

As the light faded, I could see the rainbows are shining, my family smiled before me, many storages of my money collection was shown in front of my eyes, my dream house was constructed in a way far better than I ever dreamt of, my dream girl approached me and asked me for marriage. I knew I await this day for a long time, and now it's time. All the happiness rained upon me, time elapsed so quickly, that I couldn't even realized it. It was a collection of all the good wishes I had wished for.

"What else could go wrong?" I asked, as I was happy with all that I got. "I have the satisfaction that knows no bounds ," I said.

"What lies before you was merely an illusion? Do you believe such lies? I wonder. How many of your kin suffers like you, the pathetic mind of human to understand that dreaming is all they need. Do they think they have all their desired archived that way? No."

As that voice finish his speech, a dark plague came and destroyed my dream house and eradicated it, the plague that sprung hatred and dark wills in heart. My dream wife filled by hatred in her soul, she suddenly hated me to her bone. My family came, and they worsen things up. Everything that was perfect, the way I had desired it, ruined in blink of an eye. I fell and cried, "why!? Why this happens to me!? I had everything I had desired for, and now.... This... This plague ruins everything!"

"Wake up, for there's no way you can just dream to get what you want. There's no shortcut, you must work hard." I heard the voice one more time.

"I understand now, I must stand up. I can't just dream to reach my goals, it's time to wake up!" I spoke to myself.

Everything disappeared before me, as I closed my eyes. And as I opened my eyes again....

The sun shined through the windows of my room. I wiped my tears and grabbed my phone. It's 4 in the morning. I stood up from my bed and spoke to myself, "I will make my dreams truly come true, I will work hard and intelligently to reach it!"

Kenapa Sekarang?

Years ago, I seek it. Dulu, aku berjuang untuk bisa melewati batas teman, trying to be someone that you consider as dearest. Yes, that's back then. Prof Ashari, Tangan Dingin Sang Rektor Visioner

Tulisan ini dipersembahkan kepada Prof  Dr Ir. Mochamad Ashari, M.Eng, IPU,  AEng. yang merupakan rektor ke-12 ITS, periode 2019-2024. Seluruh tulisan ini berupa pandangan saya pribadi, sebagai ucapan terima kasih, meski disajikan seakan penuh kritikan pada bagian awalnya. Pertama saya mengenal nama ini, saya ingat dari salah satu dosen saya sewaktu saya masih menempuh sarjana. Saya lupa persis kapan, tetapi saya diperkenalkan tentang bagaimana visionernya Prof Ashari dan sedikit cuplikan peran beliau membangun Telkom University di Bandung. Ya, sebelum beliau dinobatkan sebagai rektor, saya berpikir bahwa 'apabila beliau jadi, sepertinya akan berpotensi revolusioner, atau bakal agak ekstrem dalam kebijakan'. Bagi saya, itu cukup menarik, tetapi ada ketakutan di benak saya dengan potensi ekstrem kebijakan beliau.
